The reporter learned from multiple exclusive sources that China may invest about 6 billion yuan in the research and development of all solid state batteries. The news shows that six companies, including CATL, BYD, FAW, SAIC, Weilan New Energy, and Geely, may receive government basic research and development support.
Multiple insiders have confirmed that this unprecedented project in the industry is led by relevant government departments, encouraging eligible enterprises to conduct research and development on all solid state battery related technologies. It is reported that after strict screening, the project was finally divided into seven major projects, focusing on different technological routes such as polymers and sulfides.
All solid state batteries, due to their potential advantages such as high energy density, safety, and low cost, are widely regarded internationally as the development trend of the next generation of new energy power batteries. Currently, countries are increasing their investment in tackling this disruptive technology.
Industry scholars have stated that compared to billions of dollars in basic research and development investment, this project will encourage enterprises and upstream and downstream industries to invest more in the research and development of solid-state batteries, triggering a "catfish" effect or driving a trillion dollar market, injecting new impetus into global green transformation and sustainable development worldwide.
Coincidentally, since April, the industrialization of all solid state batteries in China has accelerated, and multiple enterprises are competing to announce the research and development trends and mass production schedules of all solid state batteries. GAC Group was the first to announce that all solid-state batteries will be launched in 2026, and SAIC Group also announced that all solid-state batteries will achieve mass production in 2026.
Several leading battery companies have also revealed breakthroughs in the research and development of solid-state batteries. Xinwangda stated in an exclusive interview that it has completed the research and development of all solid-state batteries with an energy density of over 400Wh/kg, and plans to achieve mass production by 2026, with an expected production capacity of 1GWh. This is also the first time that the company has publicly announced the progress of all solid-state batteries.
Guoxuan High tech also released its all solid state battery technology this month. In an interview, it was revealed that conservatively, it is expected to achieve small batch testing of all solid state batteries in 2027 and mass production by 2030.
